Solomons Island: holiday edition

“It’s bad enough in life to do without something YOU want; but confound it, what gets my goat is not being able to give somebody something you want THEM to have.” -Truman Capote, A Christmas Memory I love that quote. I’m so grateful that Jay and I are able to come home and give gifts to our loved ones and to each other. With that, I leave you with some photos of Solomons Island, Md., a sleepy waterfront village not far from where I live, to get you in the holiday spirit (if you weren’t already). Three days until Christmas!

A concert by the river

Summer is here, and we’ve been trying to enjoy every good-weathered day before the season blurs past us. One sure way to enjoy our surroundings with friends is attending the River Concert Series hosted by St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The concerts, held on campus grounds, overlook scenic St. Mary’s River. There are six concerts this season, music ranging from “serious classical composition, to light classics, to jazz.” We always like to plant ourselves in the “serious socializing” section. The best part? The music plays through the sunset. Does it get any better? Most likely, but I’m content as can be. Hope you are all enjoying your summer!

Bittersweet blossoms

Why can’t the blossoms stay longer? I’ve been holding my breath every time the wind blows because I hate to see the petals fly away. Cherry blossom time has come again and much earlier than expected. I wasn’t prepared! While I wasn’t able to see the blossoms in Washington, D.C., like last year, I did venture to a local park that had trees in full bloom. Here are some of my favorite photos. Until next year, cherry blossoms! And thank you for welcoming spring back into our lives. (Though I can do without the pollen.)
